    >Would you be giving professional fees for written works?

At this time, we cannot offer fees for works. But we really hope that other Filipinas(and especially writers and journalists) will find our mission so relevant to them that they will be willing to contribute and share their works and experiences on the site. At the same time, their works will get global exposure on the World Wide Web. We will include your name and a short bio on yourself at out Contributors page in the Sino Kami Section. And you may receive a free gift item such as a newfilipina t-shirt. Discuss this with our Site Director.

    > What exactly is this webzine about?

BagongPinay is a pro-filipina web site. Its goal is empowerment for Filipinas. It is the first magazine-format web site with this goal. The BagongPinay site hopes to create for Filipinas on the World Wide Web an online community where we can share opinions and experiences, facilitate awareness of choices and opportunities, and inspire. We want Filipinas to broaden their horizons and to discover and harness the power within themselves.

    > What made us start this site?
It is relevant to know that the site was started (formal launching April'98) because of the fact that "www.FILIPINA.com" is a mail-order-bride site.

Initially conceived as a campaign to counter international stereotypes of Filipinas as submissive, exploited women, traffic-goods, domestic help and mail-order-brides(MOBs), the BagongPinay site has grown into something more. It is now an online community for Filipinas from all walks of life, where we can speak-up, share experiences and be heard.

Contrary to the results for "Filipina" in Web search engines that give you numerous dating services, MOB sites, and dozens of lonely and financially desperate Filipinas looking for boyfriends/penpals/husbands, we believe that there is certainly a lot more to be said, seen and desired than the Filipina image that predominates on the Internet today.

NewFilipina intends that the BagongPinay site(and future pro-Filipina sites) will help change how we are regarded on the Internet and internationally. We hope that it will also change the way our own society and nation regards us Filipinas, and how, most importantly we Filipinas regard ourselves.

    > What is the frequency and audience?

  • Our target audience is Filipinas, of all ages, who surf on the World Wide Web. Therefore it is also an international target audience.
  • We are also getting men in both Filipinos and some foreigners married to Filipinas visiting and participating at the site.
  • Traffic to the site has been steadily increasing. We were getting just over a thousand hits a month when we started in 1998. The traffic doubled in 4 months. In 2001, we were getting hundreds of hits a day, averaging 2500-3400 hits a week or 350-490 hits a day.
  • At the beginning of 2003, we have grown to10,000 visitors week or almost 1500 visitors a day.
  • We anticipate a growth of Filipinas online into the new millenium and are working so that more and more find out about the site. The site is indeed becoming more popular as more Filipinas get access to the Web and more Filipinas find out about us.
  • Starting in 2000 and 2001 classrooms of women's colleges in the Philippines have been required to visit our site and encouraged to read articles and participate in the message boards. We are encouraged by their participation.
