A note about Asar Time (@#$%&*) Features: Scandalous! Outrageous! And maybe even downright annoying . . . Here are write-ups that will most definitely make you think and maybe even get you to say to yourself "Ay, oo nga pala." (rough translation: "hmmm. You've gotta point there.") Warning: Not for narrow-minded, know-it-all, easily-scandalized prissy types.
SIGNS OF A COLONIAL MENTALITY First, what is a colonial mentality? In my opinion a colonial mentality is when the colonized see themselves in the eyes of the colonizer. The colonizer hates the colonized. In turn, the colonized will also hate themselves. This is all a mind game. Many countries have been colonized by other countries, but only the European colonized countries have shown self destructive traits. So the real problem is white supremacy, not colonization. Pilipino people have one of the worst cases of colonial mentality AKA slave mentality. Mexicans are up there too, notice the similar history. Both our countries were colonized by the Spanish around the 16th century. Both our countries have high population, high Roman Catholic percentage, high poor percentage and etc. Due to the rape (physical and mental) of our ancestors, we now are divided. You have the natives and then you have the mestizos. You have the whiter Pilipinos and Mexicans in upper society. Then you have the darker indigenous people in the lower end of the social and economic ladder. It's no coincidence. How did we get this awful mentality? As you know or should know our forefathers were brutally forced to convert to Christianity by the Spanish. We were forced to believe that our previous way of life was sinful. The Spanish conquistadors, meaning to conquer, wanted to civilize us "savages". We were also forced to believe that white is good and black is bad. So the closer your skin color was to black, then the more susceptible you were to evil and sin (in those days we were very dark). The closer you were to white, the better you were. They taught us that being white made you closer to God because of their fraudulent portrayal of Jesus as a white man. We started to believe that we were sinners because of what they have taught us. That is when the self hatred started (consciously and unconsciously) and stayed. The lies that were forced to us were passed on from generation to generation. This mentality is still here today. Most don't notice it because we are so use to it. You see it every. It has become "normal" to us. You have to understand that this mentality works subconsciously and subliminally. We were taught this mentality on the day we were born. It affects us from all aspects of life, economically, mentally, spiritually, sexually, morally, religiously, physically and emotionally. I blame all the Pilipino problems on colonization and us for not realizing it. Magellan may be dead, but his ghost lives on. Everyday we recreate our death.
DO YOU EVER NOTICE....
1. That most of the showbiz Pinoys are mestizo/mestiza? 2. That the showbiz Pinoys who are darker are used only in comical situations? They always get made fun of about their color? For example Jinky Oda, Whitney Tyson, etc. 3. That so many Pinoys use skin whitening products to become whiter? There's an obsession to be white. 4. That so many Pinoys get their hair straightened? So that that they don't look like an Igorot. 5. That most of the rich Pinoys are mestizo/mestiza? 6. That most of the Pilipino politicians are mestizo/mestiza?. 7. That the pictures of Jesus are of a white man? He even sometimes has blue eyes! Just go into any Pilipino home an you will see a picture of a white Jesus hanging on the wall. 8. That good guys wear white and bad guys wear black? 9. That Pinoys are scared to get dark? 10. That most maids are dark? 11. That you never see pictures of African or Asian angels? Are there no Pilipino, Japanese, Indonesian or African people in heaven?
