Monologues," As Part of the V-Day Worldwide Campaign, "Until
the Violence Stops" V-Day
Seattle 2003, a benefit production of Eve Ensler's "The Vagina
Monologues" as part of the V-Day
Worldwide Campaign, is scheduled on Thursday, February 13, 2003 at the
Standard, 527 South Main Street in Seattle, Washington. The show begins
at 7pm. V-Day
Seattle 2003, a one-night performance only, will be a benefit performance
for the Asian & Pacific Islander Women & Family Safety Center
(APIWFSC), produced and directed by Joann Natalia Aquino. All proceeds from the show will be donated to APIWFSC. The Asian &
Pacific Islander Women and Family Safety Center (APIWFSC) is a nonprofit
domestic violence organization founded in 1993, with a mission to "prevent
violence against women and children through community organizing and
education, and provide safe, appropriate alternatives for women and
their children who face domestic violence and sexual assault in the
Asian and Pacific Islander communities." What is
V-Day? V-Day
is a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. V-Day
is a palpable energy, a fierce catalyst that promotes creative events
to increase awareness, raise money, and revitalize the spirit of existing
anti-violence organizations. V-Day
generates broader attention for the fight to stop worldwide violence
against women and girls including rape, battery, incest, female genital
mutilation (FGM), and sexual slavery. V-Day
provides funding to create and nurture innovative programs to stop the
violence. V-Day
is also a day, usually around Valentine's Day in February, for which
annual theatrical and artistic events are produced around the world
to transform consciousness and re-energize the spirit of existing anti-violence
organizations. In 2002, V-Day Worldwide
Campaign benefit performances were held in 800 venues around the world.
Celebrations were held in an Anglican Church in Nova Scotia, a Masai
village in Kenya, a Lakota reservation in South Dakota, a stadium in
Manila, a synagogue in Great Britain. There were sold out performances
at Caesar's Palace in South Africa, The National Theater in Guatemala,
The Royal Albert Hall in London, the Folies Bergeres in Paris, and the
Apollo Theater in Harlem. The V-Day
College Campaign has also appeared at 515 schools, from Harvard University
in the United States, to the HELP Institute in Selangor, Malaysia, from
the University of the Philippines in Manila to the London School of
Economics. The upcoming V-Day Worldwide
Campaign 2003 participating countries include: Australia, Austria, Belgium,
Bermuda, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Canada, China, Croatia, England, France,
Germany, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel,
Italy, Kenya, Macedonia, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Nigeria, Philippines,
