February 2002
Press Release from New Voice Company, Philippines

V for Vagina, Victory, Valentines and VDay at Folk Arts Theatre!!!

The New Voice Company - successful producers of "The Vagina Monologues" in the Philippines, Hong Kong and Singapore - are set to rock Manila with a huge VDAY celebration event at the Tanghalang Francisco Balagtas (Folk Arts Theatre) on February 23, 2002!

The theatrical concert entitled "Kababaihan...A Gala Benefit Performance of the Vagina Monologues" is the Manila VDay Worldwide Event for 2002. VDAY is an international movement to end violence against women and is spearheaded by TVM playwright Eve Ensler.

VDAY is a global movement that helps anti-violence organizations throughout the world continue to expand their core work while drawing larger public attention to the larger fight to stop worldwide violence (including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation and sexual slavery) against women and girls.

VDAY is also a day (on or around Valentine's Day in February), for which annual theatrical and artistic events are produced around the world to transform consciousness, raise money, and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations.

V-Day was born in 1998 as an outgrowth of Eve Ensler's Obie-Award winning play, "The Vagina Monologues." As Eve performed the piece in small towns and large cities all around the world, she saw and heard first hand the destructive personal, social, political and economic consequences violence against women has for many nations.

Since its inception in the U.S., V-Day has been graced by the support of extraordinary women such as Oprah Winfrey, Lily Tomlin, Marlo Tomas, Gloria Steinem, Brooke Shields, Pratibha Parmar, Soraye Mire, Sanaa Lathan. Their support group has been dubbed the "Vulva Choir" and it has grown year upon year around the world and now in the Philippines (see more info below).

Photo spreads from People Magazine and US Magazine feature Oprah Winfrey, Jane Fonda, Eve Ensler and many popular actresses who became part of the Vagina Monologue movement making a stand for women's rights and against abuse and violence directed to women in the U.S. and around the world.
