Hello Filipinas! I'm Perla, your sister filipina netizen. I've been using the internet since 1991, and using, designing and publishing on the web since 1996. Along with some other friends and pioneering Filipinas online in 1998, we started the first online community for Filipinas on the Web.
Most of you might already know that newfilipina.com began as the anti-filipina.com in 1998. And many of you visitors used to be members of the community site of www.newfilipina.com, aka "bagongpinay", that was a site for and by filipinas. You contributed articles, shared your experiences and opinions in our discussion boards and left feedback about how the site affected you. It was going strong between 1998 and 2004. I have to thank you all for sharing of yourselves and supporting newfilipina.com back then. And I owe the site's dedicated visitors an apology because in 2006, the site had technical problems, the home page disappeared, our family moved half way across the country, and other major life changes got in the way.
But, thanks for waiting and checking back in after over a year of absence.
May 2008 marked the 10th anniversary of newfilipina.com. And as of July 4rth, 2008, newfilipina.com is officially back online. From here on, things at newfilipina.com will be easier to navigate as it is now just a blog. The community site of newfilipina.com used to have many features, but, don't be disappointed, because new spinoff sites are being developed to take over the myriad of features that this once-upon-a-community site, for fiipinas and by filipinas, once had to offer. Be sure to watch out for updates in this blog for www.pinay.com and the beta site for www.phenomenalfilpinas.com. They are in the works now.
In the meantime, you now have newfilipina.com, back online, as online filipinas' glimpse into
a new way of perceiving...
a new way of being...
How do we change the Filipina cyber-image created by these types of ads?>>> FYI: the keyword of "filipina" google ads results in the type of adsshown to the right. A year ago, I started using google ads in the series of filipina sites I publish and I have to apply a filter to screen out the smuttier sites. Yes, really. Unfortunately, i lost "www.bagongpinay.com" to cyberdomain pirates(around 2006 or so) and currently the new owner runs it as a site that commodifies the keyword of "pinay" and "filipina" and runs the site for porn interests and makes money from this somehow. That's outrageous isn't it. And it breaks my heart. This is something that has been happening with the filipina image online since its early days. So the point here is to show you why and how this cybertyping of Filipinas can be changed. If you are Filipina or Filipino and have an online
presence YOU can help change how "Filipina" appears in search engine results by SEO
& google bombing techniques. Fabulous Filipinas Campaign 2004 |
